Your Livelihood Is At Risk

As someone with a neurodivergent brain, it's easy for me to spot patterns and trends. I'm usually the one shouting “GET OFF THE TRACKS, A TRAIN IS HEADING OUR WAY” while everyone else rolls their eyes and tells me I'm being negative. That being said...get off the tracks, a train is heading our way.

In other words: your livelihood is at risk.

I am not a fear-mongerer. I don't live my life preparing for the worst. But, I am a strategic thinker and I excel at looking ahead, anticipating obstacles, and redirecting so I can keep moving forward.

It's crucial to objectively look at where we are at globally: Unstable political environment. Increasing and alarming climate catastrophes. Social polarization. Inflation. High taxes. More tariffs. AI automation.

These things impact Every. Single. Industry. They lead to layoffs and budget cuts. And they can quickly lead to poverty when there are not enough social supports in place to handle the upheaval (spoiler alert: there are not enough social supports currently in place.)

Please don't catch yourself surprised when you are "suddenly" out of work. It isn't sudden. It's systemic, it's cyclical, it's easy to spot if you are brave enough to pay attention and keep your head out of the sand. Now is the time to be prepared, not blindly hopeful.

Most people will struggle and panic because they do not know how to take initiative or ownership of their future. Don't just hope that you/your job/your industry will not be effected. It almost certainly will, so set some time aside to steady your nervous system and start planning for how you might manage your life if you find yourself suddenly out of work alongside thousands of others.

Here are just a handful of tips for the impending challenges we will face economically and environmentally:

  • Diversify your skill set

  • Make friends with people who know how to build things IRL, not just digitally

  • Start a food garden

  • Save your money

  • Figure out fresh water sources

  • Build an emergency preparedness kit

  • Invest in real community -- don't just network with people in your industry.

There are plenty of solutions if you stay open-minded, flexible, & proactive. Most importantly, don't forget that we are in this together and together we will get through it.
